R-Powered Transportation Planning and Analysis in Oregon
Lighting Talk, 11:00 - 11:20 AM
This will be a lightning-tour through some of the past, present, and future uses of R at the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The Transportation Planning and Analysis Unit (TPAU) at ODOT has a rich history and ongoing practice of using R for travel demand modeling including the Statewide Integrated Model and strategic scenario planning with VisionEval. TPAU also uses R to wrangle massive traffic data sets for reporting and monitoring including live and archived motor vehicle travel speeds statewide. This talk will share the latest work to develop and implement the “DIVE Score,” a ranked public-facing dataset that characterizes the Duration, Intensity, Variability, and Extent of congestion on ODOT highways across the state.
